My Relationship : 7th Great Grandfather
Father: John KEY Sr
Mother: Martha TANDY
Birth: 1731, Virginia
John Key Jr. was married to Agnes Witt the daughter of William Witt, a Huguenot
from France. The old Witt homeplace was located at Roselands in what is now
Nelson county, Virginia. In 1764, John Key Jr., purchased from his brother,
Henry, land in Amherst county and Parish (now Nelson county) where they both
were living, and in 1765, he patented land in the same region.
John Key, Jr. bought and sold land in Amherst Parish until November, 1777 when
he disposed of what was probably the last of his holdings there. In June
1777, he was appointed a road surveyor in Amherst county, but the following
March, another was appointed in his place.
From Amherst, John Key Jr. apparently moved to Bedford County, Virginia, where
he lived until 1789. In 1783, he purchased 440 acres on the Staunton River
(upper Roanoke River) in South Bedford County, which land he and his wife
disposed of in 1788.
He served as a soldier during the Revolutionary War.
