John William Golden, 88, Rt. 1, Brookston, died at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21,
1994, at Cherry Street Annex Nursing Home. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home will
conduct servicesat 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23, in the funeral home chapel with
the Rev.John Hicks and the Rev. James Cheatham officiating. Burial will be in
Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at
the funeral home. Mr. Golden was born July 30, 1905, in the Atlas community
of Lamar County, a son of James and Minnie Frances Redus Golden. He married
Natha Wooldridge Jan. 2, 1929. She preceded him indeath on December 11, 1939.
He was a member of the Oak Park United Methodist Church. He farmed for a
number of years at Ambia and Crossroads and was later employed by Westinghouse
as a custodian and security guard,retiring in 1970. He was also a carpenter
and was a former member and president of the West Lamar School Board.
Surviving are two grandchildren, John C. Golden of Denver, Colorado and Jaxie
Leigh Golden of Aspen, Colorado; two sisters, Ida Mae Bonham of Paris and Mary
Lee Jones of Fort Worth and Nacogdoches; a sister and brother-in-law, Irene
and Hubert Cheatham of Paris; a daughter-in-law, Pam Golden of Aspen; and
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, John
H.Golden, in 1992; and two sisters, Jimmy Mildred Bailey and Annie
Gertrude(Trudie) McCollum Griffis.
