Terry Bluford Moore was born May 27, 1912 in Vernon, Lamar County, Alabama.
Moore began his professional baseball career in 1932 with the Columbus Red Birds, a Cleveland, Ohio minor league team. In 1934 he played for both the Red Birds and the Elmira Red Wings of New York and earned a roster spot with the St. Louis Cardinals for 1935.
During his eleven years of play for the Cardinals, Moore hit for a career .280 batting average in 1,298 games, with 80 home runs. He played in two World's Series (the 1942 and 1946 Cardinals) and on four All-Star Teams. Moore was known as one of the greatest outfielders ever and was credited as being the club's inspiration for the Cardinals world championship seasons. he played with such greats as Dizzy Dean, Joe Medwick, Frankie Frisch, Johnny Mize, Enos Slaughter, and Stan Musial - all members of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Although not elected himself, Moore was the captain of those Cardinals teams. He missed three of what should have been his most productive years ('43 to '45) because of military service.
After his playing days were over, Moore was a coach for the Cardinals for the '49 to '52 and '56 to '58 time periods. He also managed the Philadelphia Phillies for the second half of 1954 with a .455 winning percentage.
Terry Moore passed away March 29, 1995 at the age of 82 in Collinsville, Illinois. His grave lies in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery, Collinsville, Illinois.
